Disaster recovery – the known unknowns (part 2)

As promised in my last blog, the disaster recovery issues that practitioners most want to know more about are:

– the nature of recovery itself (I have to admit I was surprised by this)

– co-ordinating the different sectors and actors (still a big challenge)

– scaling up impact (arguably the main issue bothering people in the shelter sector)

– recovery in urban settings

– displacement and relocation

– monitoring and assessment

– information and knowledge transfer

There was also interest in learning more about some individual methods and approaches.

Disaster recovery – the known unknowns

An absorbing day at the UK Shelter Forum yesterday, where I facilitated a session on: ‘what don’t we know about disaster recovery but would like to know?’. The answers are scrawled over several pages of flipchart paper, and need to be deciphered and transcribed, but when I have done so I’ll share the ideas on this blog.

This is the start of what I hope will be a series of conversations about recovery over the coming months.  Today I’m chairing a meeting on the new World Bank/UN/EU Disaster Recovery Framework.  Is recovery coming into fashion?
